1873 Short Rifle .45 Colt, 20" Octagon Barrel

Arguably the most famous rifle of the Old West, Winchester's first centerfire arm was manufactured from 1873-1919, with more than 541,000 turned out before 1900. A frontier favorite since its debut, this lever-action rifle was produced in a number of variations from short Trapper models and carbines to short and extra-long barreled rifles. A few short years after the 1873 rifle was introduced it was often teamed with the famed 1873 Peacemaker and other sixguns that had been chambered for the '73's .44-40 (.44WCF), .38-40 (.38 WCF), and .32-20 (.32 WCF) ammunition. The premier choice of the post-1874 Texas Rangers, this slab-sided saddle rifle was also favored by such well-known Westerners as Pat Garrett, William F. Cody, Montana Rancher Granville Stuart, and outlaws Butch Cassidy, Belle Starr and Billy the Kid.

Cimarron offers more variations than any other company, from plain to fully engraved with hand-checkered pistol-gripped stocks and in barrel lengths that run from a short 16 inches to a full 30 inches long. Calibers offered are .32-20, ,38 Special/.357 Magnum, 38/40, .44 Special/.44 Magnum, .44-40, and .45 Colt. Cimarron's '73s come in Standard Blue, Charcoal Blue, or Original Finish, and with straight walnut stocks or collector quality, hand-checkered deluxe models with the pistol grip stock. From Saddle Ring Carbine to Long Range Sporting Rifle, like the originals, Cimarron's 1873 lever guns are considered the best!

I've been lusting after this rifle for awhile and finally pulled the trigger and purchased it from a local gun shop. It's pricey, but it's worth every penny. It's a beautiful firearm and shoots like a dream. It never fails to generate oohs and aahs when I show it off. The walnut and the finish on the frame are absolutely gorgeous. The octagonal barrel, while adding weight, adds style and a rugged masculinity to the gun, IMO. The action is very smooth and crisp. The edges on the lever are smooth and rounded so they don't bite into your fingers. The rear sight is adjustable for targets at different distances. It's very accurate. I've shot 300 rounds through it so far with no issues. If you are looking for a high quality lever gun in a short rifle style, I cannot possibly recommend this gun more highly. This gun is so good looking you'll want to sleep with it. In fact, I've fallen asleep with it lying next to me in bed - much to my wife's chagrin! LOL. (Posted on 8/18/2015)

Recently purchased this rifle from a local gun shop. It's a beautiful firearm. Very accurate and a real pleasure to shoot. It isn't inexpensive, but as with everything, you get what you pay for. The wood in the stock and forearm is beautiful. Love the coloring on the frame. Very smooth action. The fit between mating surfaces is excellent. Cartridges cycle smoothly and flawlessly. Buy this rifle and take it to the range. It will quickly become your favorite lever gun. (Posted on 5/28/2015)

As soon as I took it out of the box I was very impressed with how smooth the lever was and how great the color case hardening looked. It is by far my favorite rifle, my only complaint is that it holds 10 but if you lose count you can stuff more than that in the tube and the action binds up, you just have to keep count which can be difficult considering how fast one can cycle rounds through it. Frequently Asked

Cimarron FAQs

 Are they real?

Yes, all Cimarron Firearms actually fire.

 Can anyone order from Cimarron?

Cimarron Firearms can only sell cartridge firearms to FFL licensed dealers.  To find a dealer in your area, please use our dealer locator.

Percussion firearms can be ordered directly from our website.

Can I use _____ ammunition in my Cimarron Firearms?

We recommend that you shoot only standard over the counter ammunition that meet SAMMI specification’s, http://www.saami.org/.

Shooting any ammo like +P or reloads will void the warranty on the gun.

Cimarron Firearms does not have any plans to make any gun’s that shoot +P ammunition.

What makes Cimarron Firearms different as an importer?

Cimarron Firearms worked closely with Uberti in the 80s to completely change the look and feel of the replica firearms you see offered by many companies today.  For more information on this, visit our page Why Cimarron is the Best Buy.

 Is there a minimum order?

No, we do not require a minimum to order directly from us.

Do I have to put money down to put something on backorder?

With the exception of customized guns, your firearms dealer can place something on backorder with no money down.  Keeping up with demand is one of the biggest challenges Cimarron faces.  The factories we work with simply cannot keep up with the demand for our firearms.  If you (the customer) are interested in something, have your local dealer call us or send us an email, and we will get you placed in the queue for that item.  When the gun comes in, we’ll call your dealer to see if you still want it.

How long will it take to get my gun once I order it?

This varies a lot per model, depending on the supply and demand of it.  Most items are delivered in 30 days to 6 months, depending on how many dealer orders are on file and how many firearms are on order from the factories. Special orders and customized guns can take longer.

Why is it taking so long to get my gun?

Cimarron spends a great deal of time working with the factories it partners with to try to keep up with the demand of our guns.  Unfortunately, this is not always possible.  Due to the craftsmanship and production demands placed on the factories, production schedules and, thusly, deliverables on what we have ordered, can oftentimes get delayed.

 What is Cimarron Firearms’ warranty?

Cimarron means quality and we stand behind our product.  Please visit our warranty page for more info.

Do you ship guns outside of the U.S.A.?

Unfortunately, Cimarron does not ship outside of the United States.  We can, however, ship parts, leather, and display boxes to Canada through these distributers:
